International patients

Many enquiries come from outside France. Some can be handled by documentary review; others need a visit. Here is how it works and what to expect.

Start with the records

Most international enquiries begin with a second opinion: a review of your audiograms, imaging and reports, with a written summary. This can be done without travelling and often answers the main question — whether a visit is worthwhile, and for what.

Consultation in Colombiers

In-person consultations take place at the Centre de Vertige, Clinique Causse, 3 Traverse de Béziers, 34440 Colombiers, in the south of France — beside the Canal du Midi, a quarter of an hour from Béziers and close to the A9 motorway. Béziers station (regional and mainline trains) is about fifteen minutes away by taxi; Béziers–Cap d’Agde airport is nearby, and Montpellier and Toulouse airports are within reach. The clinic has parking and step-free access.

Audiometry is usually done first, then any vestibular tests, then the consultation itself, so that results are on the table during the discussion. Examination is under the microscope; imaging can usually be arranged locally if required. When you come from a distance, say so when booking: tests are grouped into the same half-day as far as possible.

If surgery is proposed

Surgery for international patients is planned so that the necessary follow-up can be done safely:

  • A pre-operative visit or documentary review to confirm the plan.
  • The operation, with an overnight stay where appropriate.
  • A stay in the area for the first check, typically one to two weeks, before travelling home. See flying after ear surgery for why.
  • Follow-up audiometry at three to six months, which can often be performed by an audiologist or ENT service at home and sent for review.

Not every procedure discussed on this site is offered here. Where another centre would be more appropriate, the review says so.

Language

Consultations are conducted in English, Dutch or French. Written summaries are provided in English unless another language is requested.

Costs and insurance

Fees and reimbursement depend on your country of residence and insurance, and on whether the care falls under European cross-border arrangements. The practice can provide the documents your insurer needs; please ask in advance what is required. Fees are not published on this site.

Emergencies

This site and its contact form are not for urgent problems. Sudden hearing loss, severe vertigo, facial weakness or severe pain need same-day care where you are — see when to contact your surgeon.
